چکیده

•Plot of sample P richness vs. Bioavailable particulate P (PP). •Slope suggests from that PP is 35% bioavailable • This is not always the case two point were not included in the regression Bioavailable P Contributions •Results of all assays are presented in the table. •If the fraction of bioavailable P (fbio) is known then the contributions of each P form can change dramatically. •Contributions of each constituent based on TP and bioavailable P are presented in the figure. •Soluble Reactive Phosphorus is completely available causing it be a large part of the bioavailable P. Evaluation of phosphorus bioavailability in sediments of three contrasting lakes in China and the UK.

The bioavailability of phosphorus (P) in sediments from West Lake and Lake Tai (China) and Lough Erne (Northern Ireland) was evaluated using total P (TP), water soluble P (WSP), readily desorbable P (RDP), algal available P (AAP) and Olsen-P. The results indicated that the TP content, the amounts of phosphorus extracted by each method and their proportions to TP varied widely between sediments ...

Do invasive mussels restrict offshore phosphorus transport in Lake Huron?

Dreissenid mussels were first documented in the Laurentian Great Lakes in the late 1980s. Zebra mussels (Dreissena polymorpha) spread quickly into shallow, hard-substrate areas; quagga mussels (Dreissena rostriformis bugensis) spread more slowly and are currently colonizing deep, offshore areas. These mussels occur at high densities, filter large water volumes while feeding on suspended materia...

Measured and predicted fluxes of biogenic silica in Lake Michigan’

Diatom production in the offshore waters of Lake Michigan is limited by silica supplies in late summer and can be predicted from the seasonal disappearance of silica from the trophogenic zone. Biogenic silica fluxes obtained from sediment trap collections were compared with fluxes predicted from the silica disappearance model. Measured and predicted fluxes were in good agreement for offshore st...

Evaluating diatom succession: some pecularities of the Great Lakes case

Succession of diatom communities in the Laurentian Great Lakes has several unusual aspects related to physical and chemical characteristics peculiar to these large systems and the constraints these conditions impose upon species which inhabit the Great Lakes. In such systems, paleolimnological reconstructions based on strict analogy to succession patterns in smaller lakes may be incomplete and,...

Relative importance of iron and molybdenum in restricting phytoplankton biomass in high phosphorus saline lakes

Eleven prairie saline (conductivity 1.8-58.8 mS cm-‘) lakes were examined over the 1994 growing season to determine what salinity-related factor or factors were responsible for controlling phytoplankton standing crops. The study lakes were characterized by high total P (0.15-24.2 mg liter-‘), total N (3.75-12.35 mg liter-‘), total Fe (552,800 p,g liter-‘), dissolved organic C (40-195 mg liter-l...
